Ralf l'astronauta nel sistema Laguna
Lagunar is a visual communication project with the objective of creating children's books with the subject of the Venice lagoon and its stories. During the course we experimented with different types and methods of representation.
The book 'Astronaut Ralf in the Laguna System' transports the Venetian lagoon into space, transforming it into a galactic system.
The protagonist Ralf, a young space explorer, lands on different planets and meets their inhabitants, discovering the many problems the system has to live with. Unbreathable air due to pollution, planets submerged by water, robots invading the planet Venice and large spaceships arriving in the galaxy are the challenges Ralf and his new acquaintances have to face in order to save Laguna.

The book is meant to be a verisimilitude of the history that Venice has been experiencing for decades now. It wants to deal with issues of great historical and social relevance, such as the problem of tourism, climate change, and living in harmony despite differences. It is a great responsibility to deal with such topics in a book for younger readers, and the result was successful thanks to subtle parallelisms, easy to recognise and understand even by a child.
The binding like the format was an integral decision in the scope of this project. Its size favours easy handling without sacrificing the size of the images. The book was then bound in two different ways, one by stitching, and the second by stapling, promoting a more immediate production and distribution, an idea that matches the social aspect of the story told.
